Uncorking the Numbers on Wine

Grandstand is attending the Midwest Grape and Wine Trade Show this weekend in Saint Charles Missouri. The show starts today and if you are in the area or planning on attending the show check us out in booth 207.

The wine industry is booming with exports at an all-time high of $1.3 billion in just the first 11 months of last year. While a warmer winter could be threatening East Coast ice wine, thats not the case for the rest of the country. Despite the current economy California wineries saw a 5% increase in their shipments last year, some of those wineries even had a hard time keeping popular varieties in stock.

In a perhaps unexpected part of the country the grape business is booming. The Virginia the wine industry is adding three-quarters of a billion dollars to the state’s economy.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, a holiday known to capitalize on the beverage, those vino numbers are looking even better. Consumer trends predict that the U.S. will spend $17.6 billion on Valentine’s Day this year. Surely part of that will be going toward a glass of red or white…maybe even pink!
