Capitol City Gets Crafty

10Evolution is not just a great craft brewery in the DC area; it also reflects the current environment of the industry. The 2013 Craft Brewers Conference, held in Washington, DC, was the biggest event in the history of the conference. Attendance was up 28% this year with over 6,400 people attending the event. Grandstand once again exhibited, for the 21st straight year and saw an amazing increase in the number of vendors and new start up breweries.

The event kicked off on Tuesday night with a reception at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum where we met customers like Port City, Lost Rhino and Smartmouth Brewing. Many of our customers, including Blue Mountain Barrel House and Devil’s Backbone were pouring their beers among the airplanes, drones and space memorabilia.  An amazing spread of food, including a macaroni & cheese bar, was available to sate the hungry and buffer the belly for more beers.

Tap takeovers abounded across the city at the many great local bars. Aviator Brewing had a tap takeover at Bourbon Adams Morgan, Shorts Brewing made their appearance at Church Key, Devils Backbone invaded Rustico and Lost Rhino paired up with Blue Mountain to dominate the taps at Sixth Engine.

Wednesday night, Dogfish Head Ale House not only had a tap takeover at Club 930, but they also hosted indie rock band, The Feelies, for a couple of sets of music that transported all of us music nerds back to the 90’s. Later the same evening, at the Black Cat, darlings of the city, DC Brau Brewing, held a fundraising event in collaboration with Ska Brewing. Together, with the help of local band, The Pietasters, they raised over $14,000 for Todd Eckhardt scholarship fund for the Ellington School of the Arts. “Tasters Choice,” a collaboration beer from Ska and DC Brau was released just for the event.

Craft Brewers Conference 2012

We had a great time at this year’s CBC event in San Diego. Aside from showcasing our booth on the trade-show floor, going to some great beer-tastings and learning about new industry trends, we got to meet some new clients and catch up with our current ones. We were also very excited to hear the buzz about our Boston Rounds and Arc Can Glasses.  If you were not at this year’s event we hope to see you there next year!
